Where's the Zwickelmania, Salem-area Breweries?

Portland, Eugene, and Bend all have Zwickelmania activities planned! Salem-area?...crickets.

What's Zwickelmania, you ask? From the Oregon Brewers Guild:
This President’s Day weekend, dozens of Oregon breweries and brewpubs will open their doors to visitors for the state’s 2nd annual Zwickelmania. Zwickelmania, hosted by the Oregon Brewers Guild (OBG), is a free statewide event that offers visitors a chance to tour Oregon breweries, meet the brewers and sample their favorite beers.

When: Saturday, February 13th, 2010 from 11-4 pm
What: Oregon Brewers Guild Brewery Open House.

Salem-area brewers, where's the love? Where's the mania?

  1. Yeah, I don't know the breweries in the salem area are uber small so it's probably really hard to do at this point, I bet they would like to do it. If my wife and I actually get our brewery off the ground when we move back to Salem in a couple of years I'll be sure to do it.

  2. You're almost certainly right about size and especially about newness.

One way to deal with that might be to band together with a restaurant and do something cooperatively.

In any case, it would be nice to do something in the spirit of, "we can't go all out this year, but here's an appetizer and look for more next year." I'm hoping for creative twists that accommodate size and newness, not so much the very same activities that would be appropriate for a regional craft brewer.

Good luck with your own venture! We need more here! Go Salem Beer!

  3. I can't imagine what the downside would be. If I were a Salembrewery no matter the size, I would be doing what needed to be done to help build craft beer culture in Salem.

  4. Indeed, Matt! Hopefully in the next week or two some Salem-Zwickelmania will emerge for 2011.
